Details...
We love our tango music. We've danced to the same recordings hundreds of times, and yet the joy that they bring doesn't diminish. We keep discovering breathtaking nooks and crannies in the music as we dance. It brings out different emotions depending on our partner, mood, environment, or even the air. It's magic. How does this work??
It's a very big question. Musicians who embark on the journey of playing tango live have to grapple with this mystery. It's an adventure!
In Canberra, we have two talented and dedicated musicians, violinist Helena Popovic and singer Charles Hudson, who took up this adventure a few years ago. They went to Buenos Aires to learn from masters in 2023; and keep working on their tango style with local Canberra bandoneonista, Rodolfo Caivano.
In this forum, as highly trained classical musicians, they will share some of their insights on what makes tango music special — especially how its playing and singing styles differ from classical music.
Sunday night milonga, 8pm–1am: DJ José Argañarás.
Monday October 7
Monday farewell milonga, 12–5pm: DJ Yuko Kinoshita.
Seating
At the three evening milongas, all tables and seating are pre-allocated. We will try to accommodate people who have asked to sit together. Welcome volunteers will take you to your table. Feel free to move around as the night progresses, but we want to make sure everyone has their booked seat at their table when they arrive. Seating on Monday is unallocated.
Venue: Albert Hall
The historic Albert Hall will be the venue for the whole event. For the evening milongas, we are running a basic bar service with local wines by the glass. For the lunch, BYO.
Albert Hall: 100 Commonwealth Ave, Yarralumla
There is some parking in the streets immediately around the venue, and a lot more just on the other side of Commonwealth Avenue at “Langton Car Park”. There is a pedestrian underpass from there that comes out just near the venue.

Let’s be responsible — please don't come to any event if you have Covid symptoms, or a positive test, or quarantine requirements.
