The historic Albert Hall will be the venue for all the milongas, as well as Saturday’s forum, asado and practica. For the milongas, we will run a basic bar. For the asado, BYO.
Address: Corner of Commonwealth Avenue & Kaye Street, Yarralumla
The Sunday afternoon milonguita will be at the Makeshift Cafe in New Acton Nishi.
Address: 2 Phillip Law St Canberra (next to Palace Electric cinema).
Most parking at New Acton is paid — instead, park 2 minutes away over the road at ANU and walk across.
Where to stay, how to get to the venues
Looking for the best place to stay if you don’t have a car? If you are interested in using public transport, the best place to stay is probably the “Civic” area — the city centre. The milonga venue is in the inner south, 10-15 min by car from the city centre. And the city centre is the most convenient place to catch buses to anywhere. Here is the ACTION bus website: www.transport.act.gov.au
You won’t have a bus service on the way back from the milongas though, so the easiest is sharing a taxi with someone who is going in the same direction. If you are happy to catch a taxi both ways, you may want to find a hotel somewhere in the inner south. It’s closer to the venue, and many people seem to be staying in that area. The closest to the Albert Hall is the Hyatt Hotel Canberra, which is right next door (obviously it’s pretty pricy).
