Tango in the Spring 2012 features four milongas, and a practica – all with quality music DJ’d by some of the best tango DJs from across Australia, plus live music. Catch up with your old tango friends from around the country, dance with new partners, dance till you drop!
We have an exciting program planned which focusses on uninterrupted high quality social dancing over four days — Friday night to Monday afternoon — because sometimes you just want to dance!
There will also be some great side events including an Argentine asado lunch to connect with tango lovers from other states while fuelling yourself for more dancing, a DJ forum for all of you who want to share and learn about tango music, and live music from Tangalo. Make sure we’ve got your email address, and we’ll keep you up to date.
We’d love it if you can join us for all four days of course! We’ll make a downloadable version for you to print just before the opening.

Saturday, 6 October 2012
DJ forum, 11am – 12 noon
Venue: St John’s Hall, Constitution Ave, Reid
Do you love tango music and want to learn more about it? Ever wondered why the DJ plays the music they do? Are you a budding DJ who wants to learn how it’s done? Or are you already a passionate DJ who loves debating what the perfect tanda is for every different moment? Whichever you are, come along to the DJ forum to debate, discuss and challenge our DJs.
Asado lunch, 12 – 2pm (optional extra $25)
Venue: St John’s Hall, Constitution Ave, Reid
Local Asado man José will be providing us with an authentic asado (Argentine barbecue). It is a great opportunity to meet and socialise with other dancers. Great range of meat (as an asado should be), salad, and bread for only $25! Vegetarian option to be confirmed. Book by 20 September (they have to order the beef ribs from a specialist butcher).
Tango Social Club of Canberra practica, 2 – 4pm
Venue: St John’s Hall, Constitution Ave, Reid. DJ: Michael Hayes
After you nourish yourself, more dancing! Every Saturday the Tango Social Club of Canberra runs a practica: a get-together to practice tango. There is no lesson, but the emphasis is on learning and practising. The music will be in tandas, with a variety of the top classic tangos, valses and milongas for dancing. It’s an informal learning environment — use it how you like! Mus
Tango til two: Saturday night milonga, 8.30pm – 2am
Venue: Italo Australia Club, Cnr National Cct and Franklin St, Forrest DJ: Nadim Sawaya
The Saturday night milonga is at that classic multicultural venue – the Italian Club. Oz/Italian bistro on site, and close to both Kingston and Manuka where there are plenty of other restaurants. Big parquet dance floor, full bar. And it runs through till 2am – no pumpkins!
Sunday, 7 October 2012
You’ll need to sleep in on Sunday morning, or see some of the sights of Canberra, or head to a local café for a leisurely brunch. And then…
Special something on Sunday 2 – 4pm: Live music with Tangalo!
Venue: National Library of Australia DJ: Yuko Kinoshita (when the band isn’t playing!)
Sydney tango band Tangalo will be performing for us on Sunday from 2-4pm. Come along and enjoy the rare opportunity of listening to one of the best tango bands in Australia. They are also tango dancers, so we are delighted to have the band members joining us as dancers at the Tango in the Spring milongas. (NB this will be open to the public, and there will only be about 60 seats available.) Though this isn’t a formal milonga (and definitely not a practica!), there will be an area set aside for dancing.
Tango til two – the sequel: Sunday night milonga, 8.30pm – 2am
Venue: Italo Australia Club, Cnr National Cct and Franklin St, Forrest DJ: Jarny Choi
Another big night time milonga so stay the night and don’t miss this opportunity to dance with people from all over Australia.

Tango at two: Monday Afternoon Milonga 2 – 6pm
One final fling before you have to leave Canberra (it’s a public holiday here, so all the locals will be there) — so come and join us for our Monday afternoon milonga to chill out, relax and squeeze in a few more tandas. Like all afternoon milongas, it’ll be ideal for hanging out with old – or new – friends. Plenty of time for you to catch flights home later in the evening.
